Postpositional Phrases

In Hindi, postpositions are used instead of prepositions. Postpositions come after the noun or pronoun they modify, while in English, prepositions come before. Understanding postpositions is crucial for constructing sentences correctly. For example, consider the phrase "at home" in English. In Hindi, the equivalent phrase would be "घर पर" (ghar par), where "घर" (ghar) means "home" and "पर" (par) is the postposition meaning "at". Unlike English, where "at" comes before "home", in Hindi "पर" follows "घर".

Hindi English
Place + Postposition Preposition + Place
घर पर at home
बाजार में in the market
अमेरिका से from America

In essence, while prepositions in English precede the noun or pronoun they modify, postpositions in Hindi follow them. This difference is essential to grasp in order to form correct and meaningful sentences in Hindi.
